DNA Learning Center: Resources for Teaching Remotely

Teaching biotechnology remotely can be challenging. Let our learning partners at the DNA Learning Center help keep your students engaged and learning from behind their devices.

When students in classrooms around the world were displaced and educators had to deal with a new teaching environment, our partners at the DNA Learning Center (DNALC) at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory sprang into action.

They scheduled live webinars two and three times a day, five days a week, covering a diverse series of biotechnology subject matter. Students and teachers from across the globe logged into DNALC’s learning sessions, which were presented by experts in their fields. The DNALC provided a variety of resources and a platform where teachers could continue their lessons uninterrupted.

The DNALC now has compiled a library of more than 100 videos from these live events—DNALC Live—featuring topics such as bioinformatics, DNA barcoding, genetically modified foods, evolution, transformation, PCR, CRISPR, and much more. Each recorded live session contains a protocol, worksheets, related content, and links to Carolina’s hands-on activities. The library covers a range of biotechnology topics, including contemporary subjects like how COVID-19 testing is done.
