Phenomena-driven science! Phenomena are observable, naturally occurring events that are everywhere and spark student questions and investigations. Ask students to observe the DCI-linked phenomena in the video and complete the attached student sheet prior to remote learning discussions.

Observations: Carefully watch the video of the platypus eating. Gather all the evidence you can from the video, and write down everything you observe.

Generate Questions: How does the platypus gather food? What types of food would the platypus be eating? How does the adaptation of the platypus’s head affect how the mammal eats? What role does the gravel play in helping or hindering food gathering?
